Coors Extra Gold

I remember fondly when this beer first came out. I guess maybe the upper part of TX, eastern OK and NM may've been test areas in 1983 or '84. I'm from the TX Panhandle, and a WTSU roommate & I first ran across Extra Gold in an Amarillo Toot'N'Totum convenience store. As we ordinarily drank Coors Light, Busch, Budweiser, and Scheaffer; this blew our minds.
Well, Extra Gold has remained in my Top 5 domestic beers ever since.

However, the last time I saw or obtained any was in a Waco, TX liquor store in around 1998. The stuff must not have been a real hot seller, as the sixpacks of tall boys typically had alot of dust on them, but were still plenty fresh to taste.

It always seemed the tall boys and quarts of Extra Gold were a bit more difficult to find than the regular sixpacks, 12 packs, and cases of 12 oz. cans.
Is this beer even still in production at all?

My beer store here in MD. lists Coors Gold on their website. I would assume thats the Extra Gold? Not sure. My fondest memory of Coors was back in the mid 70s or so. Beer from Colorado, push button cans, had a bootleg reputation. Thought it was very cool at the time. Unfortunately, Coors Light is their biggest seller now, shame. Extra Gold was OK for what it was. Drink up!

Unless this beer has changed my local distributor in PA also carries Coors Extra Gold.
