Troeg's Splinter Series

I stopped in at Troeg's today to try their new scratch beer(#22 Belgian Wit) and found out they are working on getting approval for a new series. The series is called the Splinter series and will feature some of their brews aged in bourbon barrels. The first one is going to be Mad Elf and it will be corked and sold at the brewery.

Look interesting!

The splinter series was released today! The brewery opened at 10, but I ended up getting there around 10:15. The parking lot was full and there was a line of about 40 people out the door.

It took about 50 minutes but when I finally got in the door I was rewarded with 2 of the Splinter Red(http://beersuggest.com/beer/5727/Troegs_Splinter_Beer_Red/) and 1 of the Splinter Gold(http://beersuggest.com/beer/5728/Troegs_Splinter_Beer_Gold/).

The red sold out about 5 minutes after I got mine and the gold sold out about 30 minutes later. That's 600 755ml bottles sold in about 1 hr and 30 mins!

They said that they have purchased more barrels and plan on doing more barrel-aged brews. Here are the 3 that I know of that are coming up in the future:
- Troegenator in Bourbon Barrels
- Troegenator in wine barrels with Brettanomyces
- Dreamweaver in wine barrels with cherries and Brettanomyces

Supposedly the Troegenator will have a higher yield because it will be blended. Fun stuff to look forward to!
