Description:
Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout ages well and is reminiscent of the 18th century Russian Imperial Stout style that contained extra malts and hops to act as preservatives during long voyages from England to Russia, where it was served in the royal court. Brewed with 11 different malts including Munich, Carmel, Chocolate, classic Pale and Pale Ale, this Russian Imperial Stout provides a rich, dry character, perfectly balancing Big Eddy’s hoppy assertiveness. Warrior, Summit and Glacier hops create a bold tribute to the characteristic intensity of the flavor.

Appearance - 4.0
2010 vintage. Pours pitch black with a very small dark tan head that fades quickly with little lace.
Aroma - 4.0
Huge chocolate and roasted malt notes are apparent in the aroma. There is also a small alcohol presence.
Mouthfeel - 5.0
Full in body with light carbonation. Smooth and creamy in the mouth feel.
Taste - 4.0
Dark roasted malts are infused with light chocolate. There is what tastes like light woodiness throughout along with some dark fruit near the finish. It finishes with some moderate bitterness.
Overall - 4.0
An above average Imperial Stout. I was surprised that Leinenkugel could produce a beer of this caliber. As the description says, this beer does age well (with one year on it now). Certainly worth picking up and giving a try.
