Description:
XXIII. So where to next? What's 2011's rich, imperial take on Black Butte Porter? Just for kicks, you dream. Orange zest perhaps? From Spanish Oranges. Seville, to be exact. And Chocolate nibs. Pampered nibs from the artisanal alchemists at Theo. Maybe some chilies? Pasilla Negra only, please. That would be crazy wouldn't it? Welcome to crazy. Get it while you can.

Appearance - 4.5
Pours pitch black with a pitch black color with a nice 1 inch tan head. It's got good retention and leaves some spotty lacing.
Aroma - 4.0
The aroma consists of chocolate, orange, and light bourbon notes. As it warms I get a little bit of vanilla.
Mouthfeel - 4.0
Medium to full in body, a little lighter than expected, with adequate carbonation. It has a milky smooth creaminess.
Taste - 4.0
Malt sweetness intertwined with chocolate hits the taste buds first. There is a little bit of orange zest followed by light vanilla and woody notes. Some bourbon shows up in the finish leaving a little heat.
Overall - 4.0
A very well down imperial porter. It's a sipper for sure, would like to give it a try again with some age on it.
