Twist off cap. Bottled 2/16/2006. This one is over five years old, let's see how it held up. I get a nice 'pfft' when I untwist the cap, which is good news. It produces a small off-white head that fades pretty quickly. It pours an clear and amber with ruby red highlights.
Aroma - 5.0
It has a very pungent sweet aroma. There is also a strong dark fruit presence, mostly plum. Smells great!
Mouthfeel - 4.0
Full in body with light carbonation. It has a light syrupy feel in the mouth.
Taste - 3.5
There is a bit of caramel and honey up front, that is quickly followed by an abundance of dark fruit. Plum is the most stand out flavor. As the fruit settles down the high abv, 11.4% in this vintage, rears it's head for a short while.
Overall - 4.0
Clearly this beer ages well, which is evident from the 5+ years on it. I would really enjoy trying this one fresh to see how it compares. It's a very good English Barleywine and worth checking out.
