Appearance - 4.5
Pours an inch of light tan head into a tulip glass. It has nice retention and leaves some decent lacing. The beer is clear and has a dark red hue with brown highlights mixed in.
Aroma - 4.5
The aroma consists of caramel, citrus, pine and hints of alcohol. There is also a very subtle vanilla aroma.
Mouthfeel - 4.0
Medium in body with low-medium carbonation. It's got a somewhat syrupy feel to it.
Taste - 4.0
Some caramel malts hit first. They are then followed by the hops which produce a quick shot of citrus before a large blast of resiny pine. As the pine subsides wood and alcohol finish off the taste.
Overall - 4.0
A stand up strong ale, I'm glad I got to try. It's been too long since I've had the various versions(normal, double, and oak), so I can't say how they compare. Despite that they produce a very tasty hoppy/malty treat.
