Scratch #37 2010 IPA #1
Brewery: Troegs Brewing
Alcohol By Volume: 7.70%
Beer Style: Imperial IPA
Availability: Limited
Average of 1 rating: 3.5 stars.
Description:
Scratch #37 features Warrior and Cluster hops with a touch of Columbus. It pours a bright gold with a white cap and soft carbonation. Ripe fruits are present on the nose, and continue in the taste giving a lush, tropical papaya-like flavor. This ample bitterness is offset by sweet Munich malt that lingers through each taste. Enjoy our latest IPA foray, and stay tuned for future experiments in the style. Research has rarely been so rewarding.

Appearance - 4.5
Poured into a pint glass it produces an inch of creamy white head. The head has great retention and leaves plenty of sticky lacing. The beer is clear and orange with hints of gold.
Aroma - 3.5
The aroma consists of floral and herbal hop notes combined with some subtle citrus/orange.
Mouthfeel - 3.5
Medium in body with moderate carbonation. It has a slightly resinous feel.
Taste - 3.5
A sweet malty flavor hits first followed up by a little citrus. It's got a floral/herbal hop finish with a twinge of alcohol. A refreshing bitterness lasts into the finish.
Overall - 3.5
It's got a great appearance, but I thought the taste department was lacking a bit. It's still a good beer, but I was more impressed with previous scratch IPA and Imperial IPA offerings.
