Description:
Scratch Beer #32 takes us full circle in the Scratch Series – sort of. Over three years ago, we started brewing the Scratch series beginning with one of John and Chris’ pilot brew recipes from their back patio brewing days in Boulder, Colorado. With the recent heat wave, everyone at Troegs has been itching for an easy-drinking session beer, so the brewers took us back to Scratch #1 tweaking the original recipe.
Fermenting a lager yeast at slightly warmer temperature is the hallmark of the California Common style, giving this Keystone Common a lager-like smoothness and mild fruitiness. A healthy amount of Vienna malt and a pinch of caramel malt provide bready sweetness. The predominant hop used is German Northern Brewer (mandatory for the style) creating a fruity and earthy flavor. A touch of Crystal and Bravo hops in the hopback finish the picture with a mild aromatic note and deepened complexity.
For the dog days of summer Keystone Common delivers a flavorful brew perfect for the back yard if you can brave the heat.
