Description:

The name IBU 1000 refers to the theoretical IBU of this beer. There are physical limits to how much bitterness beer can soak up. For the benefit of those especially interested in the process of brewing we can tell you that 6½ kilogram of alpha-acid extract was used og 10 kilograms of simcoe-pellets per 1000 liters beer! This means that ”easy to drink” is only for the hardcore hopheads....

Appearance - 4.0

One inch of off white head is produced when poured into a glass. The retention is very nice and it clings to the glass leaving nice lacing. The beer is a very hazy earthy color consisting of brown and orange.

Aroma - 3.5

The aroma isn't as pronounced as I would expect for a super hopped up beer. The malty side consists of some doughy and sweet malts. The hops flavors of citrus and to a lesser degree pine are present, but not super strong.

Mouthfeel - 4.0

Medium to full in body with adequate carbonation. The hops really coat your mouth and it sticks around for a good bit.

Taste - 4.0

The malt present in the nose is tasted first and it's quickly followed by a barrage of hops. The hops provide an earthy flavor as well as a mixture of pine. Citrus notes are present in the finish as well as a big bitterness. The bitterness is reminiscent of actually biting into a hop cone.

Overall - 4.0

This is a nice big DIPA. Non hop lovers need not apply, this one is reserved for those who enjoy a huge bitterness.
