Description:

Hop Project #27 is denoted by notches on the side of the label, bottled on 1st week in March. For this batch, we first wort hopped with Nugget and Simcoe, then Amarillo and Cascade at 30 min, followed by more Nugget and Simcoe at five minutes left in the boil. We dry-hopped with Cascade and Nugget after six days in the fermenter. We were aiming for a pure West-Coast-style shot-o-grapefruit-juice IPA, and I think that is what we got!

Appearance - 4.0

Pours a 1/2 inch of creamy looking off-white head. The head retention is pretty good and it leaves some spider web lacing. The beer is clear with a dark golden-orange appearance.

Aroma - 3.5

The aroma has a nice juicy hop fruitiness along with a nice caramel malt presence.

Mouthfeel - 4.0

Light-medium in body with good carbonation.

Taste - 4.0

This beer is 3 months old now, so the hops have faded a little, but there is still a pretty big grapefruit taste from beginning to finish with a nice caramel malt backbone. It finishes with a bit of citrus and a nice lasting bitterness.

Overall - 4.0

Being a hop head myself, I enjoyed this beer. The hops flavors are a little one-dimensional but it still has a nice taste. I wish I could have had a super fresh bottle, but alas there's entirely too many beers to try and not nearly enough time.
