Appearance - 4.5
Pours a ton of off-white head into my snifter, the retention is great as is the lacing. The beer is a brownish orange color and it's definitely got a haze to it.
Aroma - 3.5
Yeasty esters and pine dominate the aroma.
Mouthfeel - 4.0
Medium in body with a creamy feel to it. The hops stick around in the mouth well after each swallow. Pretty dry in the finish.
Taste - 3.5
There is a little bit of a malt base but it providing a bready flavor. The majority of the brew is about the hops though. A tiny bit of citrus and a ton of pine mixed in with some spiciness and some earthy/fruity flavors from the yeast. The hops really eat away at your palette, so you'll need a good bit of water and food if you plan on drinking another brew.
Overall - 4.0
I love the Double Simcoe IPA, but didn't really care as much for this unfiltered version. It may be that the bottle is a tad old, because looking at my review for the original there was a lot more hops aroma and flavor. Or the yeast may have altered the flavor as well. It's still a good beer but I prefer the original.
