Phoenixx Double ESB
Brewery: Real Ale Brewing Company
Alcohol By Volume: 7.20%
Beer Style: E.S.B. (Extra Special Bitter)
Availability: Seasonal
Average of 1 rating: 3.5 stars.
Description:
Our winter seasonal is inspired by the great ales of the UK but brewed with a distinctively American attitude. English crystal malt gives Phoenixx its subtle toffee and caramel notes, but this ale is about hops. The blend of English hops, highlighted by its namesake, Phoenix, yields a complex hop character that dominates this special brew.

Appearance - 3.5
Pours 1/4 inch of off-white head that has a fairly good retention and leaves a ring of lace. The beer is clear and dark amber in color with visible carbonation.
Aroma - 3.0
Some earthy hops and some bisquity malts. Overall though it's underwhelming, not much aroma.
Mouthfeel - 3.5
Light-medium in body that has a somewhat creamy feel to it. Moderate carbonation.
Taste - 3.0
The biscuit like malts up front followed by a little caramel and dark roasted malts. It's quickly over come by some grassy hops that follow through the finish and into the aftertaste leaving a bitterness in the mouth.
Overall - 3.5
A pretty interesting brew that's pretty well balanced between the malts and hops. The alcohol was well hidden. This is my first beer from Real Ale and after this, I hope to try more in the future.
