Appearance - 3.5
Pours about a 1/2 inch of off-white head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving minimal lacing. The beer is mostly opaque and is a very dark red in color. There are ruby highlights when held to the light.
Aroma - 3.0
Caramel, toffee and a tiny hint of sour grapes makes up the aroma. No hops really present in the nose. A pretty mild aroma.
Mouthfeel - 3.0
Medium in body, a bit lighter than I would have expected for the style. It is a much smaller beer than your typical barely wine. It's well carbonated and has a fairly smooth feel.
Taste - 3.0
A bit of caramel and toffee up front followed by some dark fruit. It's complemented by some subtle bittering hops in the finish.
Overall - 3.0
Despite being a barley wine it's quite drinkable. It's nothing that will knock your socks off, but is a decent brew.
