Description:
Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor completes the taste pallet of the gamma Carolus-beers.
"Hopsinjoor" is a wordplay to for one thing the several hops which were used, and on the other hand the typical character of Mechelen of Gouden Carolus: the figure "opsinjoor" is intertwined with the history of Mechelen.
4 types of hops are used: Golding, Spalt, Hallertau and Saaz. These hops were fractioned at several times in the cooking process in order to keep a maximum of aroma.
Regarding to taste we can say that the beer has a gentle, but nevertheless bitter aftertaste. Gold-yellow colour. Hoppy aroma.

Appearance - 4.5
My first Belgian IPA, recommended to me by a beer connoisseur I met in Anchorage, AK. Poured into a chalice glass it creates massive mound of white head that sticks around for quite awhile. The beer is very hazy and is a very light golden color.
Aroma - 4.0
A nice waft of floral hops, lemon, and light spices. The Saaz hops really stand out in the aroma.
Mouthfeel - 3.5
Light in body with medium-high carbonation. It's pretty dry and contains a little bit of creaminess, but not much because of the higher amount of carbonation.
Taste - 3.5
Up front are flowery hops, spices and herbs. That's followed up by a bit of chalkiness and light sweetness. Lemon comes through next followed by some bittering hops to finish it off. The alcohol is hidden very well, wouldn't believe that this had 8% in it.
Overall - 3.5
Overall this is an interesting brew. I have mixed feelings about the style, so I'll certainly have to try another popular Belgian IPA.
