Description:
We teamed up with St. Thomas Roasters of Linglestown, PA to create a special blend of espresso beans. They added Kenyan beans to the mix because of a strong citrus flavor that compliments the hops. Creating an environment akin a French press, the beans are combined with whole flower hops in the hopback, and the hot wort passes through the vessel on the way to fermentation giving Java Head a lush coffee espresso nose and hints of coffee flavor. There is a silky quality to the mouthfeel and a citrus aromas from the combination of Kenyan beans and whole flower hops.

Appearance - 5.0
Pours 1 inch of mocha colored head that has a nice retention and laces the inside of the glass very well. The beer is a very deep brown, nearly black.
Aroma - 3.0
Roasted malts, coffee, and a bit of hops make up the nose. I'm a little disappointed because Scratch #15 and #19 (which I thought this is based off of) had much more pungent noses, however I had those on tap and from a growler, rather than bottled.
Mouthfeel - 2.5
Medium in body, maybe a tad bit too thin on the mouth feel. It feels a little too watery. Minimal carbonation.
Taste - 3.5
It tastes very similar to the labels description. There are roasted malts and coffee flavors initially followed by a hint of citrus hops. It's finished with some bitter chocolate and hops.
Overall - 3.5
This isn't a bad brew, but nowhere near as good as I had anticipated after having Scratch #15 and #19.
