Description:
A trademark beer of the Santa Fe Brewing Company’s master brewer, Ty Levis, the State Pen Porter has every reason to be one of his favorites. It is flavorful, swimming with notes of nuts and chocolate; it is drinkable, so drinkable that it is almost as if pint after pint were drinking itself.

Appearance - 4.0
Pours an inch of light brown head into a standard pint glass. The head has great retention and leaves some nice globs of lace. The beer is a mostly opaque dark brown.
Aroma - 3.5
The aroma is nice and pungent. There are some roasted malts, a nuttiness and light chocolate present. There's also a subtle hop presence.
Mouthfeel - 3.0
Light in body with good carbonation. The body is bit too thin for the style.
Taste - 3.0
The flavor is similar to the nose, but a bit boring. You get the roasted malt up front followed by the nuttiness and ending with chocolate paired with some bittering hops.
Overall - 3.0
Starts out good from the look and smell, but it becomes a bit mediocre when it comes to the taste and mouth feel. An OK beer, but nothing to write home about.
