Description:
Winter Warmer was Harpoon’s first seasonal beer. It was designed to be enjoyed during the holiday season.
When you bring a glass of this dark copper ale to your lips to take your first sip you will notice the aroma of cinnamon. There is no aromatic hop added that might overpower the distinct spice scent. The medium body of this beer is formed from caramel and pale malts. These create enough body to support the spices without making the beer excessively rich. Bittering hops are added to counter the sweetness of the malt and spice. The finish of the beer is a blend of cinnamon and nutmeg. The combination of these two spices results in a balanced, pumpkin-pie flavor.
The overall character is a smooth, medium bodied ale spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg

Deep orange-red body held to the light almond brown in color. The head bubbles quickly to the top nearly the color of a coffee's crema. But my older bottles started losing their carbonation.
Aroma - 4.0
Almost right away you can smell the sweet malts and cinnamon, like an alcohol gingerbread cookie.
Mouthfeel - 3.5
This beer tickles my tongue in a way that lingers well after a tip of the glass. My tongue begins to feel slighly warm towards the end of the glass.
Taste - 4.0
At first the cinnamon and sweetness are intoxicating. I really enjoyed the bite of the mild roasted barley with the sweetness of the malt. What there is of bitterness to the ale comes from the roasted barley rather than any particularly spicy hops.
Overall - 3.5
This is a good winter warmer when it is fresh, but would not last as an Old ale. I had mine for only a month and a half, and could not hold onto it much longer without needing to cask this ale. Otherwise this Winter Warmer lives up to its name, with a higher than expected abv and some solid sweetness that fits the season.
