Description:

This beer is for those of you who have been enjoying Seven Gates Pale Ale, and are ready for that next step. Beyond the Gates Double IPA is a highly hopped brew featuring plenty of Cascade and Columbus hops. These varieties give Beyond the Gates a floral citrus aroma, and pack plenty of hopped up flavor into this full-bodied ale, which is coming in @ 7.5 ABV. Let us take you Beyond the Gates, and you'll never look back!

Appearance - 4.5

Pours almost 3 fingers of fluffy, off-white head. It has an excellent retention and leaves plenty of lacing on the sides of the glass. The beer is a murky dark orange color.

Aroma - 3.5

A well balanced aroma, there's definitely some earthy hops, but there's also some citrus and bready malts apparent. No one thing overpowers the other.

Mouthfeel - 4.0

A medium-bodied beer with moderate carbonation. It has a creaminess to it, but also a slickness from the hops oil. It's heavy on hops, but not quite enough to destroy your palate.

Taste - 3.5

A mixture of caramel and bready malts hit first. Next up are some citrusy hops followed by the earthy hops that finish the beer. It leaves a nice grapefruit bitterness on completion.

Overall - 4.0

A pretty decent DIPA. It's well balanced and remains pretty drinkable. It's nothing out of this world, but is defiantly a good example of the style. This is my 3rd beer from Spring House and I really like what they are producing. Should be interesting to see what else they come out with in the future.
