Oak Aged Unearthly Imperial Pale Ale

Appearance - 4.5

Pours 1 1/2 fingers of white head that has a good retention and leaves lots of lacing. The beer is clear and dark amber in color.

Aroma - 4.0

Interesting aroma, you get some floral hops, grapefruit and hints of oak in the nose.

Mouthfeel - 4.5

Medium in body with a smooth creamy feel and good carbonation.

Taste - 4.5

A pretty good amount of oak flavor up front, followed by a good helping of hops. A little bit of sweet malt shows up towards the end and then there is a slightly bitter finish with a bit of oak present here too. I couldn't really detect the alcohol presence at all, which is pretty impressive.

Overall - 4.5

I am a big fan of Unearthly, and this incarnation doesn't disappoint. Compared to the regular version the hops are more mellowed out and obviously the oak comes into play. It's dangerously drinkable, so watch out! If you tried Unearthly, you owe it to yourself to try this one too.
