Smuttynose Winter Ale

Appearance - 3.0

Pours 1 finger of tan head that settles fairly quickly with minimal lacing. The beer is a murky brownish-red.

Aroma - 2.5

Not a whole lot going on in the aroma department, some sweet malts and hints of chocolate are subtle.

Mouthfeel - 4.0

A medium-bodied beer with a nice smoothness to it and good carbonation.

Taste - 4.0

Sweet malts start it off followed by some dark fruits. There is a nuttiness to it that hits near the end followed by some hops. The hops add enough bitterness to it to balance out the beer well. This tastes more like a brown ale to me then a dubbel, but good nonetheless.

Overall - 3.5

Overall it's a nicely flavored beer that goes down very easily. It has some qualities of a dubbel, but to me has more of a brown ale flavor. A good winter brew.
