Description:

Sagamore Stout is a light, dry Irish Draught Stout. It is not only named for the street on which our brewery is located but also for the "Sagamore" of the Mohicans, the Chief Chingachgook. Best quaffed using a wide mouthed, full blown English Pint.

Appearance - 4.5

Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights when held to the light. It pours a massive 2 fingers of dark tan head that has a good retention and leaves nice lacing. It's pretty opaque, not much light coming through.

Aroma - 2.5

Some sweet malt comes through, with hints of chocolate, however it's over powered by a wet cardboard smell. I'm not sure if the 22oz I got was very fresh or bottled properly, b/c the smell seemed like it had potential.

Mouthfeel - 2.5

Not as thick as I imagined it would be. It's sort of thin, and leans towards the lower end of a medium body. It has a medium amount of carbonation, maybe a little bit over carbonated. Finishes dry.

Taste - 3.0

Dark roasted malts, with hints of chocolate and coffee. Seems a little under-balanced with the roasted malts overpowering the beer. A slight metallic taste lingers in the finish.

Overall - 2.5

I'd like to try this at the brewery on tap to see if there is a difference, because there are some good qualities, but a lot of the aroma and flavor seemed to be spoiled from the bottle I tried.
