Appearance - 5.0
Many thanks to Sloth for this one. 2006 vintage. Pours about 1/4 inch of dark tan head that disappears after a few minutes leaving little lacing. You don't get beer much darker than this. Looks like motor oil. Black as night.
Aroma - 4.5
Burnt, roasted dark malts with a slight sweetness. A little bit of alcohol is apparent as well.
Mouthfeel - 5.0
Full-bodied light carbonation, very smooth and sticky, perfect for the style.
Taste - 5.0
Dark roasted malts up front, followed by a thick malty sweetness. It finishes with a small bitterness and concludes with chocolate flavor that lingers in the aftertaste. Your mouth is coated for a good while after swallowing.
Overall - 5.0
A very complex, deliciously flavorful brew. There is a lot going on in this beer and it stands up to it's reputation. I would love to compare this to a fresh batch.
