Description:

The first in our Brew Crew Big Beer Series, Hopmouth Double IPA is a hop lover’s delight! Deep amber hue with a generous white head, Hopmouth showcases a rich, toasty flavor and a sweet caramel notes as a result of the high-quality Maris Otter Malt, imported from the UK. The hops are right up front in the aroma, reminiscent of citrus and pine, while the resin-like flavors linger well after the last sip.

This is a BIG beer. True to our original vision, we have achieved a level of balance and drinkability rarely found in this style. Delicious on its own, Hopmouth is also a brilliant pair with many boldly-flavored foods, including many cheeses and desserts.

Appearance - 4.0

Pours 1 finger of off white head. It sticks around for a little bit and leaves some very nice sticky lacing. The beer is a dark copper color without a whole lot of light coming through the other side.

Aroma - 2.5

A pretty underwhelming nose. A little bit of weak citrus is about all I can make out.

Mouthfeel - 4.0

A medium-full bodied beer. It has a somewhat syrupy feel to it and has a slick feel. The carbonation is just right.

Taste - 3.5

A pretty malty start with a good deal of caramel followed by some piny hops. A little bit of citrus in the finish without much bitterness. I would say this brew is more malty than hoppy. Alcohol taste isn't present at all.

Overall - 3.5

A pretty well balanced beer, although the name is a little misleading. I was expecting a hop bomb to ignite in my mouth, but it's a much more balanced beer, without a heavy hops flavor. Still a pretty drinkable beer and worth a try. I'm not sure how old the bottle was I got, so if I get a chance I'll have to try it fresh to see if it is any different.
