Description:
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence.
This newest Avery Dictator completes the "Dictator Series" joining the likes of The Kaiser & The Czar. Be aware that The Maharaja is a limited release only available for the summer. Welcome to his kingdom!

Appearance - 5.0
Batch 11, bottled March 2010. Pours a beautiful, clear, light amber color. It produces 2 inches of off-white sticky head that has great retention and leaves globs and globs of lace. A stunning appearance.
Aroma - 4.0
A fairly pungent, hoppy nose. A good dose of pine with citrusy notes. There's also a hint of the caramel malts.
Mouthfeel - 5.0
Medium-full in body with good carbonation. It comes off with a creamy feel while coating your mouth with resiny hops at the same time.
Taste - 4.5
This one is a palette destroyer, for sure. It's short life span starts off with a bit of caramel that quickly gets pushed into the background by the hops. It's mostly pine with a bit of citrus peeking out in the middle of the taste. It finishes with a piny bitterness and some alcohol sweetness.
Overall - 4.5
A delicious DIPA that needs to be consumed fresh. I accidentally bought a bottle that was over a year old and it didn't taste right at all. The difference when fresh was like night and day. This beer is a hop heads wet dream.
