Description:

Hop Ottin' IPA is as hoppy as they come. The name means "hard working hops," in Boontling, and that tells it all. Generous additions of high-alpha Pacific Northwest hops added during a vigorous boil, plus traditional dry hopping, with whole hop cones, give this ale a delicious citrus aroma, and an intense hoppy bite. This IPA is a hop lover's dream.

"Bites like an angry rattlesnake looking for a fight." as the bottle says.

Appearance - 4.5

A vigorous pour produces about an inch of creamy white head. The head has a nice retention and leaves tons of sticky lacing. The beer is clear and golden-orange in color.

Aroma - 3.0

The nose is a little bit of a let down. There aren't a whole lot of aromatics going on. There is a faint hint of pine and sweet malt. Overall the aroma is pretty weak.

Mouthfeel - 4.0

Medium in body with adequate carbonation.

Taste - 4.0

Despite the weak nose, it actually packs a nice taste. You can tell there are plenty of hops, but it's very well balanced with the malts. There are some bready malts up front followed by some caramel. Next up are the hops which range from grassy to piny with a little bit of citrus. It finishes slightly bitter. Can't detect the alcohol.

Overall - 4.0

A very nice IPA. I usually pass this beer, but am glad I finally tried it. It turned out to be pretty delicious. I'll have to look into their other offerings now.
