Description:
From the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. website:
This year marks the 25th release of Bigfoot®. Our award-winning barleywine boasts a dense, fruity bouquet, an intense flavor palate and a deep reddish-brown color. Its big maltiness is superbly balanced by a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.
“…Bigfoot® captures the imagination, and its character is as big as the name implies, with a huge hoppiness in its earthy aroma, a chewy palate, and a great depth of flavor.”

Appearance - 4.5
Vintage 2009. Pours an inch of fluffy off-white head. Retention is very good and it leaves a decent amount of lace. The beer is brownish red with ruby highlights.
Aroma - 3.5
The olfactories aren't picking up a whole lot from the aroma. I'd say some dark fruit, like plum, and an underlying caramel sweetness. Also there is a tiny hint of citrus.
Mouthfeel - 4.5
Medium-full in body with moderate carbonation and some creaminess in the mouth feel. It's also has a slight syrupy feel to it that lingers after you swallow.
Taste - 4.5
A little bit of citrus up front followed by some caramel malts. Next up is the dark fruit combined with a little bitterness from the hops. It finishes with the slightest alcohol twinge.
Overall - 4.5
Wow, this is excellent, I can't believe I waited so long to try it. I love American Barleywines because of how close the style is to Imperial IPAs. This beer is exceptional, and thanks to a generous trader I'll be able to sample vintages dating back to 2000.
