Description:

The September hop harvest is a once-a-year opportunity to brew with fresh hops, also called “wet hops.” Given the perishable nature of just-harvested hop cones, they are shipped overnight to Great Divide shortly after harvest. The morning of the scheduled hop delivery in Denver, Great Divide’s brewers begin brewing Fresh Hop and are ready to hop the beer just as the fresh hops are delivered.

Using fresh hops is a big endeavor, requiring four to five times the volume of hops compared to the usual process of using pelletized hops. This complex process brings impressive results: Fresh Hop is an American-Style Pale Ale with moderate hop bitterness marked by a unique and intensely grassy hop flavor and aroma. Fresh Hop is a superbly refreshing, medium bodied, light-copper colored pale ale.

Pours a huge amount of fluffy white head that has a great retention and leaves some nice lacing. The beer is clear with lots of carbonation bubbles and is a light copper color.

Aroma - 4.5

A nice dose of grassy and citrusy hops with a sweet malt backbone.

Mouthfeel - 4.0

Light-medium in body with active carbonation.

Taste - 4.0

A lot like the nose. Grassy hops followed by citrusy hops. A light caramel malt backbone makes it's presence followed by a combination of grassy and citrusy hops. Leaves a nice lingering bitterness.

Overall - 4.0

A nicely balanced pale ale, certainly worth a try. I'm a fan of the "wet" hops brews this time of the year.

Medium sized offwhite head that settles into a solid rocky little tuft. Splotchy lacing that lasts. Amber, copper hued ale.

Aroma - 4.0

Lightly fruity nose, citrus and melony notes, light caramel maltiness.

Mouthfeel - 4.0

Body is medium with a brisk carbonation level and a lightly resiny mouthfeel

Taste - 4.5

Plenty of hop flavor up front, citrus, orange, grapefruit, resiny with medium sweet crystal malts, a touch toasty, sorta grassy with a bit of raw metallic hoppiness. Tastey stuff.

Overall - 4.0

Finish is dry, fruity with a nice hop bite. A well made and enjoyable Pale Ale.
