Description:

Hoppier, maltier and with more alcohol than a standard IPA, Hercules Double IPA definitely is not for the faint of heart. Hercules Double IPA is, however, an elixir fit for the gods. A brash but creamy wonder, Hercules pours a deep orange-coppery color, forming substantial lace in the glass. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish. A hefty backbone of nutty, toffee-like malt character balances Hercules’ aggressive, punchy hop profile.

Appearance - 5.0

Pours a thick 2 fingers of white head that has a great retention and leaves some nice lacing. The beer is dark amber in color and has a glowing look to it. There is also a decent amount of sediment visible.

Aroma - 4.5

A delicious mixture of malts and hops. There's a sweet toffee aroma mixed in with some citrus and pine from the hops.

Mouthfeel - 3.5

Medium in body with a fairly creamy feel to it up until the dry finish.

Taste - 3.5

The first thing I noticed was that the alcohol was fairly noticeable in the taste, and left a nice warming effect. This puts a damper on it's drink-ability. Sweet malts from the nose hit first followed by a barrage of hops of the citrus and pine variety. The finish includes some roasted malts and hops bitterness.

Overall - 3.5

A good double IPA but not my favorite, I prefer more of a hoppy beer. I found this to be more malt based than hops.
