Appearance - 4.0
Pours one finger of dark tan head that settles down pretty quickly into a thick ring. As you consume this a good bit of lacing occurs. The beer is black as night with no real light coming through.
Aroma - 4.5
A nice heavy malted aroma, dark bitter chocolate, brown sugar, roasted and crystal malts. Good stuff.
Mouthfeel - 5.0
Full in body with good carbonation. Smooth and creamy on the palate.
Taste - 3.5
Taste is pretty simple compared to the nose, but it actually works for this beer. Roasted malts, wood, and some grain is the best way I can describe it. I think it's more about the great combination of ingredients that make this stout work.
Overall - 4.0
A pretty tasty winter offering from Bell's. Has a great nose and a nice balanced flavor. It's a full bodied beer but doesn't feel too heavy.
