Description:
Smoked Beer. Known as "rauchbier" in Germany, smoke-flavored beers were virtually unknown in the U.S. until Alaskan Smoked Porter was developed in 1988.
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle much like fine wine.
Water, five types of malt, 2 varieties of hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Prior to brewing, selected malts are smoked in small batches under carefully controlled conditions in a commercial food smoker using local alder wood.

Appearance - 5.0
2009 batch. Pours 2 fingers of thick fluffy tan head. Retention is great, sticks around for the entirety of the beer. It also leaves a good deal of lace. The beer is a very dark brown with hints of red that you can't quite see through.
Aroma - 3.5
The aroma consists of woodiness, smokiness, and some light chocolate.
Mouthfeel - 5.0
A medium to full-bodied beer with good carbonation. It has a creamy feel to it.
Taste - 4.0
Smokey flavors up front followed by some woody/earthy flavors. It's followed up by roasted malts and finishes slightly sweet/smokey. None of the flavors are overpowering and complement one another nicely.
Overall - 4.0
A very well rounded beer. It's balanced while still providing good smokey flavors throughout.
