Description:

Malty and slightly sweet, balanced by earthy notes from the hops. The gentle rain and fertile soil of Ireland helped inspire this style of ale, known for being remarkably balanced. Pale and Caramel malts give the beer its rich, deep red color and distinctive caramel flavor. The sweetness of the malt is pleasantly balanced by a pronounced hop bitterness and an earthy note from the East Kent Goldings hops. Samuel AdamsĀ® Irish Red finishes smooth and leaves you wanting to take another sip.

Appearance - 3.5

Pours one finger of off-white head that doesn't stick around very long and doesn't really leave any lacing. The beer itself is a nice dark red color.

Aroma - 3.5

It has a pretty sweet, malty aroma to it.

Mouthfeel - 3.5

A light-medium bodied brew. It has a slightly creamy feel to it, and is moderately carbonated.

Taste - 3.5

Sweet malts hit first with some caramel and toffee. Some earthy hops bring up the rear, but not overpowering. It finishes with a malty taste.

Overall - 3.5

Overall a pretty well rounded beer. It has a good balance of malts and hops, and looks great.

Appearance - 3.0

A very deep brownish amber colour with a thin but white head.

Aroma - 3.0

A caramel aroma along with the malts.

Mouthfeel - 3.0

A light watery feel in the mouth with just a bit of carbonation.

Taste - 2.5

A sort of complex bitterness that lingers a bit. A sort of coppery taste above all. Not much sweetness but for the first half second.

Overall - 2.5

A beer that could pair well with some foods, but alone requires an acquired taste.
