Appearance - 4.5
Produces a half inch of off-white head when poured into a tulip glass. It has pretty good retention for a barrel aged beer with such a high abv. It leaves little lacing on the glass, but produces a thick ring as it settles. The beer is clear and has a dark brownish-red hue.
Aroma - 4.0
It has a pretty complex nose. Immediately there is a strong malt presence along with hints of vanilla, oak and bourbon.
Mouthfeel - 4.0
Medium in body with moderate carbonation. It has a slightly syrupy feel to it.
Taste - 4.0
A little bit of vanilla and oak up front followed by dark fruit, plum specifically. A splash of bourbon comes next. It has some residual sweetness in the finish along with some alcohol burn.
Overall - 4.0
A very well crafted beer. It's very strong but isn't overwhelmed by the barrel flavor. Well worth seeking out.
